Manistee River Float / Camping


Join 22 2 None September 18-20 for a fun-filled weekend get-together paddling down the Manistee River and/or camping at the Old US 131 State Forest Campground (SFCG). Campers can camp Friday night, Saturday, or both; or just come for the paddle and/or the BBQ. This is a choose your own adventure and do whatever fits your schedule. This is for veterans and spouses / significant other / caregivers and children.

Please RSVP so that we know how many burgers and hotdogs to bring.

Friday:

You are welcome to arrive anytime and camp overnight.

Saturday Morning:

10:00 am - meet at the Rainbow Jim Canoe Launch located off Coster Road. We will drop boats there and then shuttle vehicles back to Old US 131 SFCG and return to launch to start the trip. The paddle trip will be approximately 6 hours long so bring something to drink, sunscreen, bug repellent, and some snacks for the trip if you want them.

We’ll end at the Old US 131 SFCG, recover the vehicles left at the put-in and then have a Pot-Luck cookout. Cookout will start at approximately 6:30pm. 22 2 None will provide the burgers, hotdogs, buns, and chips. Please bring your favorite sides, desserts, and/or drinks to share.

Sunday:

We will pack up and head home.

What You Need to Bring:

  • Snacks and beverages during the paddle

  • Dinner Friday night and/or any breakfasts

  • Campsite costs

  • Your own life jacket/PFD

What 22 2 None Will Provide:

  • Coordination

  • Grill, burgers, hotdogs, buns, condiments, plates, forks, napkins, trash bags

  • Some Canoes and Kayaks are available on first come first serve basis for those wanting to paddle but don’t have a boat.

  • Some PFD/Flotation devices are available on first come first serve basis. Please coordinate before the trip

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • It is highly recommended that all participants bring and wear a CG certified PFD but one certified flotation device per person must be at least in the canoe/kayak per Michigan law. All participants are responsible for their own safety on this trip, this is not a guided trip.

  • This will be an alcohol free paddle - save the adult beverages for afterwards.
